As many of you saw in Nathan's post a few days back, Paramount Pictures has finalized plans to remake the "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles" franchise. For any of us nostalgic types, this is excellent news (I mean, which one of us didn't own at least one of those films from the early 90s??).
News today, thanks to Yahoo! Movies, is that not only have they set plans for the remake, they've also brought in Michael Bay to produce and oversee the entire project (Nathan, I know how pumped you are for this). And not a moment later, Bay was in front of a reporter discussing his plans for the upcoming installment. Overall, I'd say his comments have me more curious than anything.

So the first thing worth noting from these thoughts is that he really doesn't plan for them to be "mutants" at all:
"The turtles are from an alien race, and they are going to be tough, edgy, funny, and completely loveable."That's interesting. As far as all of us know, they came across some radioactive ooze in a sewer as babies, and magically transformed into these beings. That's the story I know. I don't know how I feel about them being aliens... He also made a point to say, however:
"When you see this movie, kids are going to believe, one day, that these turtles actually do exist when we are done with this movie."That's an odd statement, and I'm sure Bay has some specific plot ideas in mind for that statement that he's being incredibly coy with at the moment.
Bottom line, I'm not sure I feel one way or the other about Bay being the backer of this film. If nothing else, at least we know it will have a substancial budget and it should look awesome.
Also worth noting in the article from Yahoo! Movies is that Jonathan Liebesman, director of the upcoming "Wrath of the Titans" is set to direct. We'll see what he does with his most-recent venture in a few weeks, and I should have better feelings about this then.
For now though, at least we're getting a modern live-action Turtles movie. I'm just excited I'll get to see them on screen again!
