Paramount Sets Release Dates for “One Shot” & “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles”; “World War Z” Pushed Back
Paramount Pictures set release dates for two new films today: “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” will be released on December 25, 2013; “One Shot” will be released on December 21st of this year. That spot was previously held by “World War Z”, which has now been pushed back to June 21, 2013. For more on these three films, keep reading after the jump.
“One Shot”, based on the novel by Lee Child, stars Tom Cruise as an ex-military investigator named Jack Reacher, trying to find the killer responsible for the deaths of five people. The film also stars Robert Duvall, Rosamund Pike, Richard Jenkins, and Werner Herzog.
Plot synopsis:
Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me.And sure enough, ex–military investigator Jack Reacher is coming. He knows this shooter - a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not right — and soon the slam-dunk case explodes.”
I only know the basic info on these novels. I like the idea of Tom Cruise returning to a detective role, with “Minority Report” easily being one of my favorite roles of his. Apparently, Cruise’s casting is getting a lot of gripe from fans of the novel because of the huge physical difference between Cruise and Reacher. Reacher is 6’5”, and is somewhere between 210 and 250 pounds. He’s also 65 years old. Tom Cruise is 5’7” and 165. Normally I would say 'okay, yeah that wouldn’t really work', except, there aren’t a lot of 6’5”, 250 pound 65 year olds walking around right now. So I will let the physical difference slide, since I don’t think the change in appearance will really make much of a difference in the plot. Hopefully we’ll be getting a trailer soon. It's too bad we have to wait longer for “World War Z” though. That was one of my more anticipated films of 2012.
“Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles” is a live action origin story of the reptilian crime fighting gang. “Wrath of the Titans” director Jonathan Liebesman has supposedly been chosen to direct, although there has been no official conformation. It’s still very early in production, but Laird, one of the creators of the original comic, said the film will remain very true to the original comics. I just hope this version won’t be aimed entirely at kids. I won’t be holding my breath for a hard R, but a nice PG-13 would be good. Regardless, I’m pumped that we’re getting a modern day live-action version of this film. These were some of my all-time favorite super heroes when I was a kid, and I never thought we would be getting a live-action version again. So consider me on board! Again, I know its very early, but what are peoples first impressions on these films?
