When executive producer Michael Bay announced that the turtles would be from an alien race in the new film, all hell broke loose on the internet - if you missed what was said, read Alex's post for the details. Fans immediately were in an uproar over the news, and everyone knows, there are few things more dangerous than angry fanboys.
Now we have the director of the film, Jonathan Liebesman, stepping up to the mic to try and put the fans nerves at ease. Good luck pal.
For a film that is more than a year away, it's been one busy week. When I first posted about the film being made, I didn’t expect we would hear any more news on the project for a long time. Well, it seems I was wrong. Shortly after the project was finalized, it was also announced by producer Michael Bay that the turtles would be aliens. From that moment on, it seemed like everyone had an opinion on the film, and it's turned into a back-and-fourth saga between fans and people working on the film.
Earlier today, Liebesman sat down with ComingSoon to talk about his upcoming film, “Wrath of the Titans”. During the interview he was asked if he heard any of the backlash about the Turtles film. Liebesman took the diplomatic road:
"I heard about it, and I'm glad there's such a passionate fanbase--I think that was good news for everyone--but literally, I've just been locked in a room with Kevin Eastman. I think what we're developing, the fans will love. I'm a fan, and I love what we're doing. It's a lot of stuff Kevin's been thinking about for a long time and just hasn't done. Anything we expand will tie right into the mythology, so I think fans will go apesh*t when they see it."I’m over it at this point. If they’re gonna make changes, they’re gonna make changes. If I want to read the original origin story, I’ll look up an issue of the comic. I’m just tired of hearing all this whining every time a movie doesn’t follow a comic book to the exact letter. It just gets blown so far out of proportion. They’re working with the creator of the comics, and that’s good enough for me.
Hopefully this is the last bit of news we hear about this film for awhile. It’s honestly starting to sound like a soap opera.
