The first Red Band trailer has officially hit for the upcoming horror anthology project, "V/H/S". It appears that the premise for this film hearkens back to what "The Ring" pulled off so well back in 2002. This one revolves around a group of small-time criminals who are pointed toward a cache of old VHS tapes in search of one specific clip. The problem is - in this creepy, middle-of-nowhere house, each tape offers content more terrifying than the last, and seemingly more real than just footage on a video cassette tape. They must continues to weed through them though to ensure they can retrieve the specific one they were hired to find.
Magnolia Studios is behind this one, and already it's getting solid feedback. It's appeared at both Sundance and SXSW to overly positive reviews. And on top of it being a truly suspenseful film, one of the neatest aspects to this one is that each section of this film is actually directed by a different filmmaker. Ti West, Joe Swanberg, Radio Silence, David Bruckner, Adam Wingard, and Glenn McQuaid teamed up and pieced this one together.

What do you guys think? While I'm kind of over the found footage stuff, if it's done right, I guess I don't have any qualms with it. And this looks like it's done right. The idea of compiling basically various different shorts into one film is brilliant. We can get a lot of variety and see a lot of different creepy imagery from all of these different directors. I can already tell that this is one I'm going to have to see. Just that two minutes of film was enough to get my stomach in knots and let me know that there's going to be some really twisted stuff happening. While we'll have to wait and see how the film plays as a whole, it doesn't seem to unrealistic to expect that this really could be one of the more intense horror films we've seen in years.
As has been much more common these days - especially with niche horror movies such as this - is that this will first be hitting VOD, and then getting a limited theater run. We should all get the chance to first check this out OnDemand on August 31, 2012. It will hangout there for a while before jumping into theaters on October 5, 2012.
And just in case the trailer didn't give you enough of an idea of what to expect, here is the official synopsis released by the studio:

When a group of petty criminals is hired by a mysterious party to retrieve a rare piece of found footage from a rundown house in the middle of nowhere, they soon realize that the job isn’t going to be as easy as they thought. In the living room, a lifeless body holds court before a hub of old television sets, surrounded by stacks upon stacks of VHS tapes. As they search for the right one, they are treated to a seemingly endless number of horrifying videos, each stranger than the last.
Bringing together some of the top filmmakers in the game today, this wickedly conceived horror anthology sends the viewer through a gauntlet of suspense, terror, shock, and downright brutality—instantly distinguishing itself from a sea of lackluster found-footage horror flicks. The diverse and deviously creative minds behind V/H/S shatter any preconceived notions about the genre, making it feel inventive and captivating once again.Do you guys think this is something you'll be checking out?
